How it works

Last updated

Pages are assembled automatically from the official sources listed; no text on this site is generated by AI.

What is collected, and how often

  • States, members and slugs, terms, offices, committees, memberships: daily 06:00 ET.
  • Portraits resized and stored in Supabase Storage with license and attribution: weekly and for new members.
  • District shapes to SVG maps, counties, neighbors, centroids, ACS profile: quarterly or on demand.
  • House roll calls from the Clerk (probe for new rolls), positions by bioguide: hourly on session days.
  • Senate roll calls from senate.gov (menu + detail), LIS IDs mapped to bioguide: hourly on session days.
  • Committee meetings from docs.house.gov, senate.gov and Congress.gov, merged: every 2 hours.
  • Session days from both chambers’ logs, House floor schedule, Senate floor votes: daily, and Mondays 08:00 ET.
  • Bills, sponsors, cosponsors, committees and CRS summaries (Congress.gov): daily (backfill from GovInfo via CLI).
  • OpenFEC candidate totals and 2026 ballot status per member: daily 04:00 ET.
  • Quality audit of every page: indexable or noindex, release tier, honest lastmod, IndexNow: daily, after the syncs.
  • Planned session days from the published House and Senate calendars: weekly.

Each source and its license is listed on the sources page. Every stored record keeps the address it came from and when it was read.

How pages are built

  • Every sentence comes from a template filled with data. A sentence whose data is missing is left out, and so is a section with nothing to show.
  • “Last 30 days” means the chamber's last 30 days in session, shown with the actual dates, so long recesses don't empty a member's votes and bills.
  • A member's schedule shows hearings of their own committees only, and floor items only for bills they sponsor or cosponsor or that went to one of their committees. Full chamber lists are on This Week and Hearings.
  • Bill descriptions are the Congressional Research Service's summaries, cut at a sentence boundary, never reworded.
  • “Last updated” on a page is the last time its data changed, not the time the page was generated.
  • Delegates and the Resident Commissioner, who cannot vote on the House floor, and the Speaker, who votes rarely by custom, are shown without a voting rate.

What it is not

LocateCongress shows official public schedules, votes and filings. It does not track anyone's private movements.
